Peru Alto Mayo Reserve Microlot
The Alto Mayo protected forest spans the border between the San Martin and Amazonas departments of Northern Peru. Here, the Alto Mayo Conservation Initiative works to save the region’s native coffee production. The Alto Maya Reserve, established in 2014, was produced by the COOPBAM cooperative which has 203 members. COOPAM focuses on battling deforestation and protecting the native forest and has improved access to education and healthcare. There are four COOPAM committees dedicated to women’s rights. COOPBAM is Organic and Fair Trade Certified.
